Micheal Burch FCPA, FCA, CFP is our CEO. Micheal draws on his extensive experience as the recent Managing Partner of one of the 15th largest CPA firms in the country. In addition to this, he has participated in numerous workshop and training sessions for CPAs all around the world. Micheal is currently a member of BKR's Member Value Taskforce.
In 2006, Micheal took over the role of Ottawa office Managing Partner, a role he continued to fulfill right through 2020. He is also the past Chairman of the firm-wide Executive Committee. As Managing Partner, Micheal was responsible for strategic management of the Ottawa and Toronto offices of Welch LLP, these offices have grown to over 200 employees under his leadership.

Recent Community involvement:
Michael’s social convictions and profound believe in “giving back” has been demonstrated over the years through his active involvement in community service. He has served as Trustee and Treasurer of the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame, member of the Ottawa Food Bank - Planned Giving Committee, member of the National Gallery of Canada Foundation Board of Directors, as well as member of the Dean's Advisory Board at the Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa. He has given his own time as a member of the organizing committee for the Ronald MacDonald House Ski-Fest and has been an active participant in the annual Do-It-For-Dad Prostate Cancer fundraiser. Micheal has also volunteered for many years at community based free tax return preparation clinics provided to senior citizens, and he is known to proactively encourage employees of his firm to give back time or money to social causes that inspire them.
Micheal served on the Telfer School of Management Dean’s Advisory Board between 2008 and 2015. In this capacity he provided the Dean of the School advice on strategic direction and planning. He believes and wholeheartedly supports the educational mission of the Telfer School. He is always prepared to devote time, energy to make sure the students have the best possible learning experience and are well equipped to be solid contributors in society.

In recognition of his remarkably successful career, but also of his numerous community engagement activities, Michael was the recipient of the Trudeau Medal by the Telfer School of Management Alumni Association in 2008. Established in honour of Reverend Father Roland Trudeau, OMI, and former director of the University's Commerce department from 1950 to 1965, the Trudeau Medal is the highest honour given by the Telfer School of Management to its alumni. It recognizes leadership, initiative and contributions to the business world, the community and their alma mater.

Family:
Micheal was born in Toronto. He is married to Marianna with four children and six grandchildren. Micheal is an avid runner and has participated in numerous races including multiple marathons. He is well aware of the merits of sports and team play and has been involved in athletics all of his life. When he is not running he is playing his guitar, either alone or with his fellow jazz band members.
